History of the
Life After Whipple Project
The Life-After-Whipple project began in November of 2022 when Dr. Gazala Khan (Mr. Adams’ oncologist) with Henry Ford Health asked if he would be willing to help start a pancreatic cancer survivor’s support group. She noticed he was amassing a wealth of knowledge about post-Whipple conditions, problems, and potential solutions.
One week later, Sheila Sky Kasselman, founder of the Sky Foundation, and one of Mr. Adams’ first pancreatic cancer mentors, asked him to share this knowledge with the Sky Foundation community.
Realizing the need for this project, interest was coordinated between Henry Ford Health and the Sky Foundation. The Detroit chapter of Gilda’s Club joined the team a month later. Shortly after, Howard Crawford, PhD., Director, Henry Ford Health Pancreatic Cancer Research Center, volunteered to assist with securing topic presenters for our Zoom presentations. And, by the end of January 2023, Michigan State University Medical School was providing medical students to work on our Lost Organ Anatomy section.
